BY STINA KERANS

Stina has been been a devoted mother, and a builder, and speaker, and a successful property developer. Her initial drive was to seek improved life quality—the creating of happiness and the dissolving of many social issues such as housing affordability, depression, ageing, loneliness, childcare, and youth issues, to name a few.

Stina believes that at the heart of social problems are financial stresses and unsustainable resource use and food production. Her penetrating solutions were drawn from yin wisdom, many trips around the globe, and business ventures.

She now shares her story and gently leads us to see what needs to be done to thrive and why we cannot expect this to be done for us. She believes that peer collaboration for personal financial gain is the only way forward.

  • The environment—many savings in personal cost of living because of the environmental goodies incorporated into the plans.

  • The suburban sprawl eats up bushland and habitats—and the village model obviates the need for everyone to own a 1/4 acre block.

  • The practical advantages of ageing in place—and again the model has answers, a little too complex to list here, but the book gives full details.

  • Our survival is presently based on money alone—and it may seem too good to be true, but this book explains how it’s achievable and necessary to have the support of a complementary currency. Moreover, as you’ll read, it’s been proven to work already.

  • Perhaps this should have been the first point, but you’ll read that in this decade the price of housing will likely be out of the reach of the majority of Australians, leaving us to rent from large corporations.

Now that the New Normal is upon us and we enter the financially limiting post-pandemic condition, this model becomes even more relevant and more realistic.

The Sun Villages model provides us all with a quality, sustainable and socially responsible path into a difficult and uncertain future on the global scale.
